History and origins
A History That Continues to Fascinate
The historical Bavarian Illuminati emerged in 1776 in an era shaped by debates about reason, authority, religion, and social reform. Founded by Adam Weishaupt, the group sought to promote Enlightenment ideas within its historical context.
The organization was suppressed in Bavaria in the 1780s. Nevertheless, the Illuminati name continued to appear in books, public debate, fiction, and conspiracy narratives, gradually taking on meanings far beyond its original historical setting.
